Events in former SVO territory will now be held by DVOA. You will still see some familiar faces! Keep an eye on the DVOA Schedule to see what's coming up.
On Saturday, Feb 11, a meeting/dinner of the Susquehanna Valley Orienteering (SVO) club was held at Chili's in York for the purpose of discussing the potential merger of SVO and Delaware Valley Orienteering Association (DVOA), and the dissolution of SVO. In attendance were Mike Ball, Spencer Downing, Mary Frank (DVOA - non-voting), Julie Keim, Brad Whitmore, and Rob Wilkison.
The result was a vote of 4 yes, 0 no, 1 abstentions, in favor of the merger of SVO and DVOA, and the dissolution of SVO. Following the meeting, the president of OUSA, Clare Durand was informed of the result. Other items that will happen in the near future are transferring the SVO membership list to Mary Frank (note: recent SVO members should get a 1 year DVOA membership), the development of a more detailed schedule of events in the SVO area (e.g., tentative plans are for a regular meet at Colonel Denning in May, and the normal beginners event at Kings Gap, also in May), updating the SVO website, the transfer of equipment, etc.
I would like to thank all SVO members, past and present, for helping support orienteering in the SVO region for the past 33 years, and I look forward to continuing this activity in a broader context in the coming years. Hope to see many of you at the Colonel Denning event.
Cheers, Brad Whitmore
