Another training event for newcomers was
held on September 16 on a beautiful day. Six
groups went out on a White course and all
came back with enthusiastic comments.
Which means that they found all the controls.
This time I avoided hanging controls
near patches of stinging nettles, which could
have brought down the level of enthusiasm.
The participants had the experience of finding
cliffs and rootstock as well as the usual trail
intersections and manmade objects.
A sizeable group of adventure racers also
showed up under the leadership of Doug
Hershey, and did an Orange course. The idea
was to improve their navigational skills and
improve map reading ability. This seemed to
work well, and it was a good day for everyone
involved.
Helping out were the usual personnel:
Nathalie Borozny, and Mike and Michelle
Wenz. Michelle’s friend Whitney Rufo also
helped, and the two of them may be a couple
of Green course powerhouses in about 8
years when they’re 18.
