Pine Grove Furnace State Park October 11, 1998 course results: White  Yellow  Orange  Green  Red  Meet Director: Mark Williams Course Setter: Francis Hogle Helpers: Barry Lee, Brad Whitmore, Rory Ferguson, Tom Joseph, Terry Yiengst,Nichole & Heather Williams A mild sunny day greeted the 47 participants at the fall Pine Grove Furnace meet. The map is named after the local State Park. However, the event took place entirely on State Forest property and did not have any controls within the State park. Many people who utilize this area are not aware there is a very big difference between parks and Recreation and the Bureau of Forestry. The Start/Finish was at the Piney Ridge ATV Parking lot. This parking lot is used for a variety of activities including horseback riding, mountain biking, etc., but was built and is maintained through ATV registration funds. In typical form for the course setter, control #1 for Green and Red could have been quite a challenge, but did not seem to be a real problem for anyone during the event. Attempting to find this control at dusk, however, was too much for the control retriever Barry Lee. I am starting to question whether Barry would be a good teammate choice for a Rogaine. But in all fairness, he did not have his bicycle/spelunking light. Notable scores were Mark Voit on the Red course and Rob Wilkison on the Green course. A String-O was set up for the youngsters which I believe was a first for an SVO event.
