Pinchot State Park April 5, 1998 course results: White  Yellow  Orange  Green  Red  Meet Directors: Jim Browne and Paul Grubbs A big day for SVO! A much-needed new map, good weather, and a fine turnout - 70 maps. And some bad news: the scriber (JB) of the Green course on the maps made a mistake. The #4 control was shown correctly on some, but incorrectly, in a nearby feature, on other maps. Therefore, some competitors hit it right away while others wandered aound for various times trying to locate it. So, the Green course is voided and will not count toward regional rankings. Our grateful thanks to those who went through this mess and were so gracious in their responses. Whatever you said out of earshot doesn't matter - you were nice where it counted. Otherwise, an enjoyable time. The woods had not yet come out into full leaf, so visibility and navigation were not as tough as in midsummer. And the wildflowers were blooming in many places - whites, yellows, pinks and blues. Some places were still kind of wet from recent rains, but still not an important factor. Some noticed that some of the rock features were not mapped. We will work on that and when the current stock of maps is used up, a more complete map will be available. We are grateful to the many workers who made the event possible.
