Long's Park April 26, 1997 course results: White  Yellow  Event Director + Course Setter: Jim Browne Helpers: Nathalie Borozny, Scott Fitzpatrick, Paul and Andrew Grubbs, Brad Whitmore The first use of our map of Longs Park in Lancaster was a real success based on the experiences of many of the first-time orienteers who showed up. The map is 1:5000, and is nearly all shades of yellow (i.e., open). However it does have the advantage for those just starting orienteering in that it's impossible to get lost. You can almost see one end of the park from the other end. Not quite. Setting a course can be a challenge - how to make a yellow length course in a small park, but using crossing routes one can get in the required 2.5-3.0 km length. The weather was ideal, people really enjoyed themselves, some joined SVO, and we now have another place to introduce people to the sport that lasts a lifetime. Back here in the fall.
